Ask the Pedorthist

Natasha asked on January 30th, 2010.  When I get up in the morning or if I stand after sitting for my lunch break for about an hour, my heel and arch are really painful.  I limp at first and then I can usually walk it off, somewhat.  But then, the next day the same pain starts again and again…  What do you think is wrong?

Can you help?

Dr. Gauthier’s response.

What you are describing resembles a common condition called plantar fasciitis.  This condition can be confirmed with a thorough pedorthic assessment including a biomechanical and gait analysis.  Treatment can include custom made orthotic devices as well as cryotherapy, bracing, exercises, and physical therapy.  Pedorthic management of plantar fasciitis will offer you your best chances of resolving your foot problem.
